A: We put it after verb/ phrase
Pattern
Affirmative: Subject + verb/ phrase + dâi
Negative: Subject + verb/ phrase + mâi dâi
Question: Subject + verb/ phrase dâi mái?
Example sentences
Affirmative: Phŏm phûud phaasăa Thai dâi (ผมพูดภาษาไทยได้)
Negative: Phŏm phûud phaasăa Thai mâi dâi (ผมพูดภาษาไทยไม่ได้)
Question: Khun phûud phaasăa Thai dâi mái? (คุณพูดภาษาไทยได้ไหม)
Q: And if I want to add an adverb in a sentence, where will I put it?
Let's notice this sentence:
- Phŏm phûud phaasăa Thai dâi nídnòi
(I can speak Thai very little.)
ผมพูดภาษาไทยได้นิดหน่อย
- Phŏm phûud phaasăa Thai dâi mâi mâak
(I can speak Thai not much.)
ผมพูดภาษาไทยได้ไม่มาก
Apart from the word "dâi", you may hear people use "pen" sometimes. And it conveys the meaning of knowing how to do something. But don't be confused with "pen" as verb to be since the order is different.
The position of the word "pen" (as can) is the same as "dâi"
Examples:
- Khun tham aahăan pen mái?
(Can you cook?) = Do you know how to cook?
คุณทำอาหารเป็นไหม
- Chán khàpród mâi pen.
(I cannot drive.) = I don't know how to drive.
ฉันขับรถไม่เป็น

Your first sentence is correct but the second one is not.
"phom mai phuud phaasaa Thai dii" means "I don't speak good Thai" which can mean like you can speak good Thai but you don't want to. The rule is simple, just folow the pattern above. To use "cannot", you have to put "mâi dâi" after verb....
Example:
Chán tham mâi dâi = I can't do it.
Chán bàwk khun mâi dâi = I can't tell you
Q: Thanks for your patience
A: Khàwpkhun sămràp khwaam òd-thon khăwngkhun khà.
Thai people seldom use that phrase if you appreciate someone helps you. It's better just to say like 'Thank you very much' instead :)
The other question:

If you are not good at doing something, you say "Sub+ verb + mâi gèng" (you can do but not well)
But if you "cannot" you use " .....mâi dâi"
